The air is a perpetual stench of "midnight" in the brutally uncommon town of

Mecklenburg, Colorado. Its secrets separate the town from the world: the secrets, the

unknown, and the uneasiness.

Given the chance of a lifetime, Tom Porter accepts a new job in Mecklenburg. But deep

within the town's copper mine lies a secret, a doorway that will transport him into a

parallel wasteland controlled by an insidious faction of people.

Tom stumbles across the door and is forced into the parallel world, where he awakens

hairless, bloody, and naked.

Lives hang in the balance as Tom's only hope is to find the Book of the Black, which is the
